UPSC Civil Services Examination Syllabus is divided into three stages 

Preliminary 

Mains

Interview

Here’s the detailed syllabus for each stage:

Preliminary Examination:
Paper 1 – General Studies: 200 Marks
Current events of national and international importance.
History of India and Indian National Movement.
Indian and World Geography – Physical , Social , Economic Geography of India and the World.
Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution , Political System, Panchayati Raj , Public Policy, Rights Issues , etc.
Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development , Poverty , Inclusion, Demographics , Social Sector initiatives , etc.
General issues on Environmental Ecology , Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialisation.
General Science.
Paper 2 – Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT):200 Marks

Comprehension.
Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
Decision-making and problem solving.
General mental ability.
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level).
Mains Examination:
Paper A – Indian Language: 300 Marks
Comprehension of given passages.
Precis writing.
Usage and Vocabulary.
Short Essay.
Paper B – English Language: 300 Marks

Comprehension of given passages.
Precis writing.
Usage and Vocabulary.
Short Essay.
Paper 1 – Essay: 250 Marks

Candidates may be required to write essays on multiple topics.
They will be expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in orderly fashion and to write concisely.
Paper 2 – General Studies 1: 250 Marks

Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society.
Paper 3 – General Studies 2: 250 Marks

Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations.
Paper 4 – General Studies 3: 250 Marks

Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management.
Paper 5 – General Studies 4: 250 Marks

Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude.
Paper 6 – Optional Paper 1: 250 Marks

Candidates have to choose any one subject from a list of around 50 subjects.
Paper 7 – Optional Paper 2: 250 Marks

Candidates have to choose any one subject from a list of around 50 subjects.
Personality Test (Interview): 275 marks
Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination will be called for a personality test (interview), which carries a total of 275 marks.
